'My partner found him huddled under a gas box crying': Cat in desperate need of help gets chased out of the house by mother-in-law, but the husband runs into the rain after the cat and saves him

If a cat seeks out help from humans, it is doing so for a good reason.

Stray cats, more often than not, are afraid of humans. They have no interest in us. We are big and scary and loud, and if we don't watch our steps carefully, we might step on them. We're sure that every cat learns to stay away from us. So, if a cat asks you for help… you know that it wasn't their first choice. If a cat comes to you, walks into your home, looking for that warmth, it is doing it because it actually wants to do it. And that cat should be treated with kindness.

Of course, when this kitty broke into this person's home and ate their cat's food, the mother-in-law thought that she was doing the right thing, chasing the cat out. She didn't realize that the humans living there have already created a bond with the cat. And she certainly didn't expect for her son to run out into the storm, looking for that helpless kitty who came asking for help, and to come back with the kitty in hand, ready to make his home into the cat's new forever home.

Honestly, the way that we are imagining this, it legitimately feels like a scene from a movie. We can practically see the rain falling, the husband running out of the front door and yelling. The cat, hurt emotionally and physically, sprinting out of the house in fear, after he came with so much hope that he would be taken in. And then the rescue. The moment when the distrustful cat sees the human it wants to see, where that spark of trust lights up within him again, allowing him to let his guard down enough to be taken in and loved. We would watch this movie. We really would.

All that matters is that you got him when you did. He came to you when he was supposed to. With the CDS, things always work out the way that they should. He's with you now, he's living his best life, he is happy, and so are we. All that matters is helping them when they ask you for help, and that is exactly what you did. We can only hope that more people would be like you and truly go out of their way like you did to help an animal in need.
